Matthew Peart is a Chartered Professional Structural & Civil Engineer with over 12 years of experience in structural, civil, and hydraulic engineering. As the founder of 2x4 Engineering Design, he specialises in delivering efficient, sustainable, and detail-oriented engineering solutions for projects across Tasmania.

With expertise in steel, timber (including engineered and mass timber), masonry, precast, reinforced concrete along with unique materials such as rammed earth, Matthew has played a key role in a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure developments across Tasmania and Regional Victoria. His portfolio includes notable projects such as the Legana Primary School, Launceston General Hospital PIU Building, Devonport Novotel Hotel, Perth Link Bypass, and Kings Quarters multi-Residential Development. Matthew was also the structural engineer behind the scenes on the award winning heritage conversion of a 1922 Hydro-Electric Substation to a boutique residence as featured in season 6 of Grand Designs Australia.

Matthew is committed to precision, collaboration, and innovation, working closely with architects, contractors, and developers to ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs. Matthew's commitment extends beyond the project specific and to establishing ongoing relationships with his clients. His services include structural and civil design, project coordination, independent third party design reviews, and engineering and facility maintenance investigations. With strong technical proficiency in software such as SpaceGass, SkyCiv, Inducta, Revit, and AutoCAD along with a deep understanding of the Australian Standards, he delivers practical and innovative solutions tailored to each project’s needs.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering Management. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (Structural and Civil), a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), a National Engineering Register (NER) member, and a Registered Building Services Provider in Tasmania.

Beyond engineering Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He has a passion for cooking pizzas, steak, and sourdough, as well as photography. Whether experimenting with new recipes or capturing the perfect shot, he enjoys the creative process in and out of engineering.
